Planning a road trip is always a fun and exciting experience. There are many things to prepare, including selecting your route, packing necessary gear, and choosing the right snacks for the trip. Road trip prep also means ensuring your vehicle is ready for the road ahead. As your local Chevy dealership, we want to tell you about some of the services we offer to get your Chevy ready for the trip.

Tire Checks

Healthy tires with good tread are essential for safe driving. The tread allows the tires to grip the surface, making driving and braking easier. As time passes, the tread wears down due to surface friction. Bad wheel alignment, poorly balanced tires, and incorrect tire inflation will all increase tire wear and decrease braking effectiveness.

Our technicians examine your tires and will advise on their condition. We’ll correct under- or overinflated tires and check their balance using our tire balancing machine. We can fix alignment issues by connecting the wheels to our computerized wheel alignment machine. Finally, if you need new tires, we can install and balance them while you wait.

Battery Check

The battery provides the electrical charge that starts the engine. When you push the start button, it sends an electrical charge to the starter, which cranks the engine. As this happens, fuel and air mix in the intake manifold and are drawn into the cylinders. The fuel-air mixture is compressed by the pistons and then ignited by the spark plugs to produce combustion. Despite its importance, a battery only lasts three to five years.

The chemicals that allow the battery to store and supply electricity break down naturally, and this reduces the battery’s storage capacity. Eventually, the battery can’t store enough power to start the engine. We’ll test your battery using our computerized battery tester. If your battery is weak, we can fit a new one in minutes, so you have the peace of mind that your Chevy will start easily on your road trip.

Fluid Checks

Your Chevy contains numerous fluids that allow its systems to work effectively. Each fluid is separated from the others, and many of them are pressurized. The most important fluids in your vehicle are brake fluid, oil, transmission fluid, coolant, and power steering fluid.

All these fluids become less effective as they age, and wear and tear, rust, or damage to their systems can cause leaks. We check each fluid level and top it up if required. Older fluids will be drained and replaced, and if the fluid has a filter, we’ll install a replacement.
